Keyword Search for Geosynthetics Technical Papers

Overview
Since GSI’s inception in 1986, we have collected most technical papers on geosynthetics topics that have appeared in English throughout the world. We continue to do so. Included in the database are about 15,000 citations from journals, proceedings, magazines and related publications. It is now available for non-GSI members but for a nominal fee.

Search Procedure
Unlike many keyword searches, this citation information is based on the user’s knowledge as to what he/she desires. In this regard, the first choice is the type of geosynthetic of interest among which are the following options.

Geosynthetic
Geotextile
Geogrid
Geonet
Geomembrane
Geosynthetic Clay Liner

Geocomposite
Geoerosion Control
Geopipe
Geofoam
Geo-other

Upon clinking on the desired material type a second choice is presented as to the detailed aspect of the particular application. For example if “geomembrane” was selected the offerings are as follows.

agriculture applications
bituminous/elastomers
canals
dams
design (including stability)
field test/performance
floating covers
geotechnical applications
heap leach pads
inflatable dams
installation
laboratory test
landfill covers
landfill liners

leakage/detection
manufacturing
miscellaneous/overview
other applications
quality control/quality assurance
regulations/specifications
resins
seams
secondary containment
surface impoundment (reservoir) liner
theory
transportation applications
tunnels
vertical/lateral landfill expansions
vertical walls

Lastly, if the specific file is extremely large, it might be subdivided one-step further. For example for “laboratory tests”, “landfill covers” and “landfill liners” there is the additional step required.

From this point the citation list usually appears in the alphabetical order of the first author. For example if “inflatable dams” was selected the citations result in alphabetical order as follows:

Commentary on Access
To obtain an actual copy of the desired paper(s) one must be cognizant of copyright laws. That said, most “journal papers” are copyrighted and actual papers must be retrieved from the publisher, e.g., “Geotextile and Geomembrane” papers are obtained from Elsevier Publishing Co., while “Geosynthetic International” papers from Thomas Telford Publishers and “Geosynthetics and Ground Engineering” from Springer-Verlag Publishing Co. There generally will be a service charge by the publisher.

On the other hand, many conference proceedings papers and most magazine papers are not copyrighted. If this is the case, we can provide electronic copies for a service charge.
